ROTA VIRUS - Your child is at risk

Rota Virus causes severe vomiting and diarhoea.Almost every child,before 5 years of age, will suffer from atleast one episode of gastroenteritis (diarhoea and vomiting) caused by a virus called rota virus.

Symptoms: The main symptoms include:
  • vomiting which usually lasts 2-3 days
  • watery diarhoea,which usually persists 5-8 days
  • fever and stomach pains

Dehydration due to vomiting and diarhoea, could lead to hospitalisation.

Severity of Rota Virus

Diarhoea from rota virus can lead to dehydration which can result to death for children who do not receive treatment on time.

How Can a child get infected?

The virus survives for atleast 4 hours on hands,for days to weeks on solid surfaces and drinking water that children play in.It also remains infective in human faeces for upto one week.
